Kottayam: A bison attacked two individuals in Erumely on Friday morning, resulting in their death. The deceased are Kanamala natives Chacko (65) and Thomas (60)
Chacko was sitting on the porch of his house when the unexpected attack of the bison happened.
Thomas was working in the grove at the time of the assault. It is believed that it was the same bison that attacked both individuals. The victims suffered severe injuries, particularly to their legs. A group of angry natives are staging a protest against forest officials.
The animal fled the location following the attack, said natives.
In March this year, a bison was spotted at Edakkunnam in Kanjirappally, near here. The bison that posed a threat in the region fell into a well one night. The next morning, it was rescued from the well using an earth mover under the forest department's supervision. As soon as the bison was rescued, it escaped from the spot.
