Changanassery: A woman’s life turned upside down after some anti-socials circulated her phone number claiming it to be of a sex worker. Some people wrote the number in train toilets and also circulated through other means. Though the woman filed a complaint with police several times, no action was initiated. She is clueless about how to continue life.
The woman identified as Jessimol hails from Vakathanam near Changanassery and is working as tailor. She filed complaint with several police stations but all of them suggested only one solution – change the phone number. However, the woman is confused as changing her number would affect her career as a tailor because customers contact her on the same number for several years.
The woman said that she has been receiving calls for the last 9 months. She runs a tailoring unit at Kurittimalain Ithithanam. As calls from anti-socials kept coming, she put up a Facebook video explaining her situation. With this, the incident came to light.
Jessimol is living in a rented house near Thengana with her four children. Her husband abandoned her and she is trying to manage the household independently. She has been receiving around 50 calls on a single day. Among them, 30 are from the same number. Even if the call is picked by her children, the anti-socials talk to them in the same way.
“Please let me live peacefully. I’m not an indecent woman and will never be. I am struggling and working hard to educate my children. These people are not letting me do even that,” she said.
Jessimol decided to narrate her experience through social media after she lost hope of getting any help from police. She lodged a complaint with the district police chief. The authorities said that they are studying on the case.
