Kottayam: Shihab, a civil police officer of AR Camp, has been suspended for stealing around 10kg of mangoes from a store in Kanjirapally here. The move comes after the CCTV visuals of the act emerged on social media, putting Kerala Police on a bad light.

Officials could not initially identify the person as he had worn a helmet and raincoat. However, the vehicle number was recognizable, which led to Shihab.

Meanwhile, reports said the cop is on the run. Officials maintained that they have initiated search to nab him.

The crime happened when the official was returning home after duty, in the midnight of September 28. The cop stopped his scooter in front of the shop and ensured that no one was nearby.

Following that, he started to collect mangoes from the box that was kept outside the shop. He pooled the mangoes under the seat of his scooter.

He also checked his surroundings frequently to make sure that no one was noticing. After filling the space on scooter, he fled the place.
