Kollam: Locals said that Sandeep had frequent fights with his mother, demanding money for buying alcohol. ''The helpless woman used to lock herself up in a room, to avoid his torture,'' they said.

Sandeep used to be reckless after drinking. He used to destroy stuff at home. Locals stayed away as it used to be a regular sight. The perpetrator, son of a teacher couple, however, used to behave decently with his neighbours.

He was sent to a rehabilitation center a few months ago and has since returned, claiming that he has overcome his drinking problem.

However it was a blatant lie, the time he spent at the de-addiction center hardly had any effect on Sandeep, he continued drinking alcohol whenever he got a chance.

Interestingly, there were no complaints against him in the school he worked. The murderer, a teacher by profession, served at Vilangara UP School.

Sandeep himself called in the police

On Wednesday early morning, Sandeep was creating trouble in his neighborhood. Amidst the chaos, he hurt his leg while trying to jump off a wall.

He voluntarily dialed 112 and called police for help. He suspected that somebody was trying to kill him.

Pooyapally police finally arrived at the spot and shifted Sandeep to Kottarakkara hospital as per his request.

A friendly doctor

Vandana’s colleagues at Kottarakkara Taluk hospital said she was a friendly doctor, always in good spirits. It has just been 3 weeks since she has been posted at the hospital along with 21 other junior doctors.

According to Special Medical Officer Dr. Vasudevan, ''Vandana was a smart junior doctor who fulfilled her responsibilities with utmost sincerity.''

''She was very friendly to us, '' recollects a few patients at the hospital.
