Kottarakkara: The fuel pumps in Kollam rural district will no longer fill the tanks of police vehicles due to the police department's failure to clear arrears of around Rs 1.5 crore in the past six months.

The decision in this regard was taken by the district petroleum dealers association. Reportedly, there are pumps which are yet to receive around Rs 3 lakh - Rs 10 lakh as dues.

Due to the huge arrears, the operation of the pumps are in uncertainty. As a result, if the dues are not cleared, we will not be able to supply fuel to police vehicles from March 15 onwards, said the association in a statement.

Meanwhile, a pump owner in Kulathupuzha, where there is dues of eight months, has already stopped supplying fuel to police vehicles.

“Earlier, money was paid on time. As there are arrears of lakhs, it is not possible for pumps to purchase new loads of fuel,” said S Muraleedharan, association office bearer.

However, police officials opined that the delay in receiving government allotment is the reason for the dues. Some pump owners also fail to submit fuel bills on time as well, they added.
