Kollam: In a tragic incident, a man brutally murdered his wife by setting her on fire at an Akshaya Centre in Paripally here on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Nadira, a staff at the Akshaya Centre. Following the attack, her husband Raheem, a Navaikulam native, took his own life by slitting his throat and jumping into a well.
The incident happened on Monday morning. According to authorities, Raheem arrived at the Akshaya Centre wearing a helmet and doused Nadira's body in kerosene before setting her on fire. He left the premises by waving a knife at onlookers after ensuring that Nadira was dead.
Later, he slit his own throat and jumped into a well. He was pronounced dead by the time fire force officials retrieved his body from the well.
Earlier, Raheem was placed in remand custody for attacking and injuring Nadira. Raheem was released from prison four days ago in the case. Meanwhile, several criminal cases are against him before Pallikal Police. He has also reportedly threatened to kill his wife in the past.
Nadira's coworkers stated that she was enduring physical violence from her husband in order to take care of her daughter. According to the police, family issues lead to murder.
