Kollam man in isolation attacks nurse, makes suicide threat and breaks windowpane
Kollam: A man kept under isolation at the PWD women’s hostel here turned violent on Monday. He attacked a nurse after breaking the windowpane of the building.
The man, a native of Padappakkara and an NRI, was brought to the isolation room on Sunday evening. His family had hidden the information that he has been consuming medicines for mental health issues from the officials.
On Monday morning he asked the nurses for tea and water. Nurses provided him with water and informed his house to bring tea. But no one came. Following this, health workers told him that they will buy him tea. However, he turned violent.
After changing his dhoti to trousers, he made suicide threat alleging to hang himself using the dhoti. He tried to strangle one of the health workers through the grill door. He also beat up one of the nurses who went inside, using a bottle.
Then he broke the windowpane during which he was injured. However, he did not allow nurses to attend to the injuries. But when police arrived, he acted politely, said health workers adding he was showing signs of depression.
He is now admitted to Kollam district hospital.
