Kottarakkara: Kerala police’s Alcoscan Vehicle that can test consumption of psychoactive substances and alcohol, arrived in Kollam.

Earlier, a breath analyser was used to find intoxicated drivers. However, medical tests of people who tested positive in analyser would take a long time. The new vehicle makes the process easier with advanced facilities.

The Alcoscan matches international standards. The testing kit and equipment are imported from the US. The Alcoscan vehicle costs around Rs 50 lakh including the installation cost of the lab.

The use of six drugs, including MDMA, can be detected using this test. The vehicle is air-conditioned and also has other basic facilities.
