Kochi: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan here on Friday justified the party's decision to include P Sasi in the state committee. He claimed that the selection of P Sasi to the state committee was not a wrong decision.
"The party took disciplinary action against Sasi over violating the party ideology. The action was not taken over the sexual assault allegations against him," he added.
Kodiyeri defended Sasi and claimed that the party would encourage those who came forward to correct their mistakes. His remark came after he was re-elected as the party-state secretary for the third time in a row.
When enquired about the omission of Jayarajan from the state secretariat, he responded that the authority to select members into the state committee lies with the state conference. He added that not everyone can be included in the state secretariat.
Meantime, all those leaders who exceeded the age bar of 75-years are excluded from the state committee. James Mathew and G Sudhakaran were excluded as per the request. Kodiyeri said that Sudhakaran will work for the party based on the district.
As per the party constitution, those who do not attend the state conference can also be included in the state committee. Kodiyeri also asserted that women members were selected to the state committee not based on the proportional representation of members.
