Kodiyeri sees bid to cause unrest in Kerala over the comments of Swapna Suresh

Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Friday slammed the opposition parties and said if they are trying to cause unrest in the state, CPM will defend it. He was responding to the allegations levelled against chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his family by the gold smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh. UDF and BJP have been organising protest rallies across the state and many of them turned violent.

Snubbing the allegations of Swapna as baseless, Kodiyeri said it was the CM himself who sent a letter to the central government demanding a detailed investigation into the gold smuggling case of 2020.

Kodiyeri’s remarks came hours after Swapna Suresh levelled several allegations against the chief minister and the CPM state secretary. She released audio clips claiming Shaj Kiran, an alleged benami of CM, threatened her to back off from the allegations and even change her statement given to the court under CrPC section 164.

"The central agency was unable to find the person who sent the gold through diplomatic baggage to Kerala and those who received it. Are they accused in the case," he asked.

He alleged that the investigation changed its course after it became apparent that those close to BJP and the central government had links in the case.

"The central agencies attempted to link the CM and his office to the case. This was later investigated for almost one-and-half years and was used politically during the assembly elections. UDF and BJP tried to raise it as a major issue before the public during the election. However, LDF came out victorious in the elections," he added.

He alleged that the latest comments of Swapna were due to political conspiracy. They aim to destroy peace and solidarity in the state by not letting the ruling government function properly.
He said that it is unusual for an accused to reveal the confidential statement given before the court. They aim to drag the chief minister, his family and others linked to the government into the case. Her comments are contradictory to the statements she had given earlier, he added.

Kodiyeri pointed out that it was Swapna who refused to give a statement against the chief minister and M Sivasankar. Back then, she said that she was pressured to give a statement against the CM, he added.
