Kodiyeri Balakrishnan ready to stay away from CPM secretary post
Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has expressed willingness to stay away from his position in the party in the backdrop of the recent controversies. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan informed this during a special meeting held with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at the AKG Centre in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday.
Though Kodiyeri expressed his willingness to stay away from his position, the central leadership of the party and the CM are of the opinion that such a decision would cause the party more harm than good.
Kodiyeri informed the leadership that he is willing to stay away from the party in the backdrop of the rape complaint against his son Binoy Kodiyeri. Though it is a personal issue, it is likely to put the party in defensive mode which is why Kodiyeri said he is willing to stay away.
The meeting between Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and Pinarayi Vijayan held at AKG Centre is crucial as it was convened ahead of the state secretariat held on Saturday morning. Kodiyeri is likely to repeat his opinion in the secretariat meeting also.
The party’s decision in this matter is yet to be taken. The party also fears that if Kodiyeri steps down, it will create an impression that the allegations are true. Another argument is that Kodiyeri stepping down can be an ideal act to uphold the Communist values when an allegation is raised.
The controversy regarding the suicide of an expat industrialist in Anthoor municipality will lead to serious discussions in the secretariat meeting.
