Kodiyeri Balakrishnan backs residents of Maradu flats and their protest
Kochi: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan came out in support of the Maradu flat owners on Saturday.
Speaking to media after meeting the residents, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that the state government is ruled by a party that has always supported people who have been evicted. “If the residents of Maradu flats were to be evicted by any chance, they will not be alone,” he added.
Kodiyeri Balakrishnan assured that the government will do everything possible for the residents. Stating that the residents need not be worried, the CPM leader said the party will find solutions if there are shortcomings.
Officials are responsible for the present situation. Lapses from their part ultimately resulted in the present supreme court verdict but the residents are being made to pay for it. 350 families are facing eviction, he said.
“As it is an apex court verdict, the state government has limitations. But from within those limitations, the state government will do everything in its capacity for the residents. CPM will put pressure on the government in this regard. We are in support of the residents and their protest. Former chief minister Oommen Chandy has assured to cooperate with the government in this regard. Considering all these factors, the state government will do everything possible for the residents,” Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said.
