Kochi: Actress Manju Warrier has launched 'Samridhi @ Kochi,' a Janakeeya Hotel to feed the people at an affordable price here on Thursday. Under this project, meals will be provided for just Rs 10.
The project is being implemented as part of the ‘Hunger-Free Kochi’ project announced in this year's budget. The hotel is established on the ground floor of the Libra Hotel building on North Paramara Road. The centralised kitchen with modern facilities can cater up to 1500 people.
Samridhi @ Kochi aims to feed daily wagers including sales girls, porters, and other small scale workers.
“All of these daily wage workers bring food from home. However, if they had to eat from outside, it will affect their monthly earning. In order to save money, many people opt to skip food. The main objective of this project is to avoid this situation,” Kochi Mayor M Anil Kumar told Mathrubhumi.com.
The lunch includes a pickle, sambar or any other curries as side dishes for a cost of Rs 10. Additionally, special dishes can also be bought for separate prices if needed.
AIFRHM, an accredited agency of Kudumbashree under the District Mission provided training to the hotel staff. In the first phase, 14 Kudumbashree members from Kochi Corporation will coordinate the operation of the hotel.
