Kochi witnesses heavy downpour; waterlogging reported across city

Kochi: Heavy rain leading to waterlogging was witnessed in several parts of Kochi on Tuesday. An uprooted tree disrupted traffic in the Kathrikadavu area. The Fire Safety department has taken measures to remove the tree from the road.

The city has been experiencing heavy downpours since Tuesday morning. As a result, several shops on MG Road and the KSRTC bus stand were flooded. Locals alleged they notified authorities about the wretched condition of the tree and the danger it posed to pedestrians and travellers.

Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts witnessed heavy rainfall in the last several hours. A few days back, Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts suffered heavy losses due to extreme rainfall.

A holiday was declared in all educational institutions in Pathanamthitta district on Tuesday. Further, a holiday was also announced for all educational institutions in three taluks of the Kottayam district.
