Kochi: Ernakulam North police nabbed three youth with 122 gram MDMA on Saturday. The accused were identified as Idukki natives Abhiram (20), Abin (18) and Anu Lakshmi (18). The suspects were arrested following a joint inspection conducted by North police and DANSAF (District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force) squad in a house at Liberty lane in Azad road.
Three-fold hike in drug bust
As many as 2,477 drug peddling cases were registered at police stations in Kochi city this year till November. The number of cases recorded last year for the same period was 910.
City police have marked the locations, where more drug-related cases were reported as black spots. At least 59 black spots are there under the 23 station limits in the city.
Massive raids on account of New Year events
With the three-fold increase in drug peddling cases, police intensified raids in view of New Year parties. Joint inspections of police, excise, customs, Intelligence Bureau, Narcotics Control Bureau and other central- state agencies will follow, especially in Kochi.
Strict guidelines have been issued for the organisers of New Year events in the city. The entry pass shall be issued only after verifying identity cards. A warning board against psychotropic drug use have to be installed at the party sites.
The investigation agencies have mulled to form an organisation by including the organisers of DJ parties and similar events against the drug abuse.
