Kochi Metro medians to be beautified with gardens made on bio-waste
Kochi: The Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is all set to make a garden on the medians on the Aluva-MG Road route using biodegradable waste. It has been decided to use bio-waste instead of soil to plant lawn and flowering plants.
In the first phase, a lawn was made near Padma Theatre in January. The project to turn medians into gardens will be complete within two months. Biodegradable waste from various residential apartments and Tripunithura municipality is used to make the compost.
The project will be implemented by Pelican Biotech and Chemical Labs. About 10 metric tonnes of biodegradable waste is used in every median. More quantity of bio-waste will be refilled in the medians every six months.
Muthoot Mini Finance also cooperates with KMRL for this project. KMRL plans to expand the garden project to more places with the help of other companies.
