G20 summit in India: Kochi likely to be one of the venues

Thiruvananthapuram: Kochi is likely to host the G20 summit, the first-of-a-kind international event in the state. The central government is considering to conduct ministerial-level meeting in Kochi as part of hosting G20 summit of 2023 in India.

An official team arrived in Kochi and evaluated the venue and other facilities. Later, the team led by foreign affairs joint secretary Eenam Gambhir, met the state government representatives.

The summit includes more than 200 meetings and other events hosted in India. Off this, the ministerial-level meetings are likely to be held in Kochi.

The team arrived in Kochi and conducted evaluation on April 21 and 22. It is learned that meeting convened with state officials discussed factors including hotel/accomodation, travel, security and weather conditions.

Besides Kochi, Gujarat is another option for the event. The final decision will be taken by the central government.
