Kochi: Ernakulam Judicial magistrate court here on Tuesday has sent the four accused in the model gang-rape case to police custody till November 26. The four accused are Kodungallur natives Vivek Sudhakaran, Nidhin Meghanathan, Sudeep and Rajasthan native Dimple Lamba alias Dolly.
The prosecution argued that the accused had hatched a conspiracy to rape the 19-year-old girl.
“They intoxicated the victim and brutally raped her at the parking area and inside a moving car,” said the prosecution.
Meanwhile, the probe team seized the mobile phones of the three accused in the case. But they didn’t examine it as all the phones are locked. At the same time, the probe team is yet to recover the mobile phone of the fourth accused Dimple.
The prosecution informed the court that more investigation should be carried out on the fourth accused Dimple and that the probe team need to interrogate all the accused in detail. Following this, the court has sent all the accused to police custody till November 26.
Meanwhile, the courtroom witnessed dramatic scenes when the court was considering the custody application moved by the police. Two lawyers appeared for Dimple in court. This led to a dispute between Adv Afsal and Adv B Aloor. Though Dimple hired Adv Afsal for the case, Adv Aloor also appeared in court without any request from the accused. The judge also intervened in the dispute between the lawyers. Later, Dimple clarified that she only hired Adv Afsal.
