Kochi: Kochi mayor M Anil Kumar on Saturday informed that the administration will file an appeal against the National Green Tribunal (NGT)’s direction seeking the Municipal Corporation to pay an environmental compensation of Rs 100 crore for the damage to the environment because of its failure to handle solid waste.

According to Kumar, NGT issued the order without hearing the administration’s version. It will be a burden for the corporation if compensation is settled, he noted. He pointed out that NGT did not estimate the losses incurred by the Corporation.

Kumar also targeted the previous administration and claimed that its lapses (UDF-led administration) resulted in the Brahmapuram fire.
