KM Shaji denies receiving notice from Corporation for illegal extension in residence building
Kannur: KM Shaji MLA has dismissed the news that he was served a notice for demolishing his house by Kozhikode Corporation over violating building rules. He said that he did not receive any such notice, adding that the validity of the permit is only for 9 years and that when he bought the land, it was in a buffer zone. That is why the house was constructed in 3 storeys, KM Shaji told the media.
Kozhikode mayor Thotttathil Raveendran stated that the MLA did not submit the estimate or the plan of the house and it can be made legal if he pays a penalty of Rs 10 lakh. So far, no tax has been collected for the building even though it was completed 4.5 years ago. The mayor said that the officers are also at fault here and that they will be punished.
KM Shaji can make the building legal by paying the penalty and submitting a revised plan. Notice will be served for everyone alike if they construct buildings without authorization, he said.
Meanwhile, Shaji revealed that the legal formalities of the house has not been completed yet. The house is still with the Corporation. He also said that he has not violated any guidelines of the building rules.
He added that he hails from a financially well-off family and so he can afford to build a big house. He also said that he can prove this before Enforcement Directorate.
The measurements of KM Shaji’s house was taken by Corporation officials the other day. There were allegations against him that he took a bribe of Rs 25 lakhs from a school in Kannur district in order to grant them Plus two classes. ED probing the complaint, had directed the Corporation to furnish details of Shaji's house.
The Kozhikode Corporation gave permission for 3,200 square feet buiding. However, it was revealed that the MLA’s house amounted to 5,500 square feet. The additional construction was held in the third storey of the house.
