Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister KK Shailaja has responded to the Central government’s criticism that the vaccination count was coming down in the state.
Shailaja stated that the vaccination drive was conducted successfully in the state and that she read in the media that only 16 percent vaccination was held in certain states.
Vaccination was completed in 75 percent of the registered volunteers on the first day in Kerala. Not everyone, who registered for the vaccination drive, will turn up. However, Kerala is one of the states where the vaccination drive was conducted really well when compared to other states.
She also added that many states have complained about the problems with the COVID portal. When many states stopped the vaccination drive when such technical issues occured, Kerala continued with the drive while recording the details in registers. Hence, the vaccine was provided to a good number of people on the first day itself.
There will be side effects irrespective of whichever vaccine it is. Only very few side effects have been reported until now. The state took many precautions in that regard, she said.
The minister also stated that the state Health Department has not received any notification from the Centre regarding low vaccination count.
