KK Abraham-Pulpally Co-operative Bank
Wayanad: Congress leader KK Abraham on Friday stepped down as KPCC general secretary hours after he got remanded in alleged loan fraud at the Pulpally Co-operative Bank here. He tendered his resignation letter to KPCC.
Abraham in his letter noted that he is staying away until his innocence is proven. He is the prime accused in the alleged loan fraud case. The alleged illicit activities happened during his tenure as bank president.
Abraham is one among the 10 accused in the case.
The alleged fraud came to the limelight after the suicide of Rajendran Nair (60), the complainant in the case.
Police earlier had taken him into custody. However, now he is undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College. The former bank secretary is under police custody.
The resignation comes at this juncture. It also comes at a time when the Congress-led administrative body of the bank has been receiving flak over the alleged malpractices.
Many view the resignation as a damage control measure.
