Kochi: Kitex Company MD Sabu Jacob on Sunday lashed out at the police after migrant workers were arrested over the violence at Kizhakkambalam. He stated that nearly 40 people were involved in the ruckus but the police took 155 workers into custody. Giving an explanation a day after the incident, Sabu Jacob issued a press statement on Sunday.
Kizhakkambalam witnessed violence on Saturday night after migrant workers of Kitex attacked policemen, vandalised vehicles and set a police car on fire on Saturday.
'Only less than 40 workers are behind the violence. But the police took 155 people into custody. Not everyone is believed to be guilty. The man who set the police vehicle on fire was arrested and handed over to the police by the Kitex company itself. We will co-operate fully with the investigation," the statement said.
The press release also said that all the accused would be brought before the law and an investigation will be conducted to reveal the source of drugs used by the workers. The company is expected to comment on the incident on Monday.
