Thiruvananthapuram: Public Works Minister, PA Mohammed Riyas, on Monday said Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) has allowed Rs 2134.5 crore for Wayanad tunnel road, a dream project of the state.
The tunnel that aims to end the roadblock on the Thamarassery ghat road, passes through Anakkampoyil, Kalladi and Meppadi. If realised, it would be the fastest route to reach Kozhikode from the hilly Wayanad district. It would also be the longest tunnel in the state.
The total length of the tunnel would be 7.82 km. Swargam Kunnu-Kalladi stretch is 6.8 km long. This is one of the biggest projects that PWD has taken up right now.
The survey for the tunnel construction started in September 2020. The previous Pinarayi Vijayan government had allowed Rs 658 crore from KIIFB after approving the proposal. The project hopefully will be over in three years after construction begins.
