Sunil Kumar | Mathrubhumi
Kollam: A railway employee died after being hit by a MEMU train on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as railway keyman Sunil Kumar (51), a native of Chavara.
The incident took place around 9.20 am at the railway gate near Kandachira - Chathinamkulam road. Reportedly, Sunil Kumar was tightening the bolts of the railway track when the mishap happened.
Sunil Kumar failed to notice the train due to the sound of another train passing through a nearby track.
The loco pilot of MEMU did not report the accident. Following which, a guard of Chennai Mail, which passed through at 9.40 am, informed the matter at Kollam railway station.
“As there is no system to inform keymen about train timings, such accidental deaths are becoming common,” said employees.
