Kottayam: In the controversial Kevin murder case, sources hinted that it is an apparent case of honour killing. According to Kevin’s relatives he was abducted and killed by his wife’s relatives as he belongs to a backward community.
Meanwhile, Neenu, wife of Kevin, has been admitted to hospital after hearing the news of his death. Presently, she is with her husband’s family.
Kevin’s body was found in a stream at Chaliyekkara in Punalur.
Congress leader Jyothikumar Chammakkala also asserted that it is a case of honour killing.
Kevin and Pathanapuram native Neenu (20) got married at the registrar office on Friday. They were in a relationship since three years.
Kevin’s family belonged to Cheramar community under Hindu religion and later converted to Christianity. They are also identified as economically backward. Whereas Neenu belongs to a Roman Catholic family.
Hence, it is learnt that the economic backwardness and caste of the groom made the girl’s family kill him.
Kevin and his relative Mannanam Aneesh were abducted by a gang led by Neenu’s brother. Later they released Aneesh on the way. But the family had no clue about Kevin after the abduction.
The news came into light after Neenu lodged a man missing complaint to police. His body was recovered from a stream on Monday morning.
It is reported that deep injury marks are found on Kevin's body.

Neenu, who is a graduate student, reached Kottayam on May 24 after convincing her family that she has to enquire about exams. But in the evening, she informed them that she got married to Kevin. Though they phoned her repeatedly, she ignored it.
Later, Neenu’s family registered a complaint at Gandhi Nagar police station on May 25. Following this, police summoned the couple to the station.
According to Kevin’s relatives, the couple has submitted their marriage documents at the station. Though Neenu expressed willingness to go with Kevin, police asked her to leave with her family. As she protested against it, they allowed Kevin to take her.
After the incident, Neenu went to her hostel near Medical College and Kevin moved to his relative Aneesh’s house. On Sunday, men in three cars broke into Aneesh’s house and abducted Kevin and Aneesh. Both were brutally attacked and the furniture in the house destroyed.
