Kevin murder case: Reinstatement of SI put on hold
Thiruvananthapuram: The order reinstating SI Shibu, an accused in the Kevin murder case, has been put on hold following a direction from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Kevin’s father had filed a complaint to the CM, DGP and leader of opposition following the order to reinstate MS Shibu, SI of Gandhi Nagar. The order was issued by Kochi range IG Vijay Sakhare on Wednesday. The IG explained that Shibu was reinstated following his explanation. The move was widely criticised.
There were allegations that no timely action was taken against Shibu, who was the Gandhi Nagar SI when Kevin was murdered. As soon as Kevin was kidnapped, his family members had lodged a complaint with the Gandhi Nagar police. However, SI Shibu delayed investigation stating that he had additional responsibility of arranging security for the CM. Shibu was suspended pending inquiry after Kevin was murdered and the incident became a controversy.
Earlier, police officers including ASI Biju were dismissed and several others were denied benefits for accepting bribe for Neenu’s relatives.
