Keralite among 5 killed in car-lorry collision in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: Five people including Palakkad Vallapuzha native were killed in a car-lorry collision at Sulur near Coimbatore on Saturday morning. A Kerala registration car and Tamil Nadu registration lorry collided killing all five passengers of the car.
The mishap took place on Palakkad-Salem road by 5 am on Saturday. Maruti WagonR car with the number KL 52 P 1014 met with the accident. Car driver has been identified as Muhammed Basheer (44), son of Vallapuzha native Muhammed Kutty, a construction work contractor. Four Kolkata natives including a woman who was travelling with him in the car were killed in the accident.
Four people in the car were killed on the spot. One succumbed to his injuries on the way to Coimbatore medical college. The four Kolkata natives were workers of Muhammad Basheer. They were shifted to Kanyakumari from Vallapuzha two days ago. Their car met with the accident when they were returning to Vallapuzha.
The deceased migrant workers are identified as Malathi Mandal, Heerulal Sikari, Midhun Pandit and Gowranka Pandit. Their bodies were shifted to the mortuary in Coimbatore medical college.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Basheer’s relatives arrived Coimbatore to receive his mortal remains. Body of the deceased will be handed over to the relatives after post-mortem.
The lorry driver Satheesh Kumar a native of Tiruchi was taken into police custody for further probing.
