Transgender brothers attacked in TVM; one seriously injured

Thiruvananthapuram: Three transgender brothers were brutally manhandled by the locals at Sreekaryam here on Saturday. Laiju and two of his brothers who live in a rented house were beaten up by the neighbours. Albin, a transman, was seriously injured in the attack.

Laiju, Albin and Albin's brother live together in a rented house. When they went outside during the night, the locals mobbed and questioned them. An argument broke out between the trio and the natives.

Following this, they were beaten up by a group of five. Albin who suffered serious head injuries has been admitted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. It is learnt that the people attacked him with a wooden stick.

It is revealed that the assailants were under the influence of alcohol. The victims alleged that no action has been taken against the assailants initially despite lodging a complaint with the Sreekaryam police station. Later, a case was registered after they went to the police station and discussed the matter.

Two of the five-member gang of attackers have been arrested.

The attackers are neighbours of Laiju and Albin. It is reported that they used to disturb the trio by making derogatory remarks.
