Mofiya suicide case: All three accused remanded, shifted to district prison

Kochi: The Aluva Magistrate's Court on Thursday remanded all three accused in connection with the suicide of Mofiya Parveen, a law student in Aluva here. Mofiya's husband Mohammad Suhail (27), his parents Yusaf (63) and Rukhia (55) were remanded and shifted to Kakkanad district jail.

The accused were produced before the court under tight security around 10:30 am on Thursday amid mounting protest outside the court premises. They were later produced before the magistrate's chamber.

Meanwhile, the police have filed a plea seeking custody of the accused for five days. The police stated in the custody request that the case needs an in-depth investigation and the accused should be questioned in detail.

It is alleged that the accused demanded dowry and assaulted the girl. Therefore a detailed inquiry is required, the police said. The court will consider the custody application only after hearing the statements of the defendants.
