Waqf board appointments not through PSC: CM assures Samastha leaders

Thiruvananthapuram: Samastha leaders on Tuesday said that chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has assured that appointments to the Kerala State Waqf Board would not be made through the Public Service Commission. The leaders stated that the chief minister addressed their concern over the decision to bring the board appointments under a state government body.

The Chief Minister stated that no decision has been taken on the matter. He added that the government would not be taking any stand which hurts anyone. "It was not the decision of the PSC to bring board appointments. Waqf board made the decision to bring appointments under PSC," he said.

However, Muslim League dismissed the state government stand on the matter and said it cannot be trusted.

Last month, the state government had decided to entrust PSC with the task of recruitment to the Waqf Board. Following this, Samastha chairman Sayed Jifri Muthukoya Thangal stated that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has agreed to deliberate over the matter.
