Kannur: Shahzad Muhammad Rafi, a boy from Pazhayangadi in Kannur has made Keralites proud by qualifying in an international level online talent show organized by Red Bull, the energy drink company. Interestingly he is one among the two who qualified from India in the 2021 edition Red Bull Neymar Jr’s Five championship and is poised to meet Neymar Júnior, the renowned football player from Brazil.
Red Bull Neymar Jr’s Five is a championship is considered as one among the world’s largest amateur football tournaments. To take part in the championship one has to register through online. They are supposed to upload a 60-second video showcasing their football skills on Instagram with the hashtag: #OutPlayThemAll.
The candidates will be evaluated by a screening committee based on the performance There will be multiple level screenings. Notably, footballer Neymar is also part of this committee which selects team members for the world finals.
Though Shahzad participated in the 2020 edition of the championship, he was not qualified in the national level. However, he was very optimistic as his friends boosted his confidence. With this, he decided to try again this year.
Shahzad is a Class 12 student of Wadihuda Higher Secondaty School in Pazhayangadi. He is son of Muhammad Rafi and Sherifa Rafi. Rishada and Fathima are his siblings. Since Class 6, Shahzad has been showing interest in football. Now, he has got a rare opportunity to meet Neymar, something which is aspired by tens of thousands.
