Kochi: The Motor Vehicle Department on Saturday revealed that the vehicles owned by Monson Mavungal are old and after being left unused, are not fit for roads. It is also clear that the registration of eight of his cars was done outside Kerala.
MVD officials on Friday visited Monson's home and inspected the vehicles. Initially, the family was unwilling to hand over the car keys to the officials. Many of the so-called luxury cars in his possession failed to start and eight cars were unusable. The vehicles are registered in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana and Tamil Nadu.
The vehicles are out of date and details are not available on the MVD website. Therefore, the officials have decided to send letters to the respective RTOs in other states.
Monson used 'luxury cars' as a cover to facilitate his elaborate plan to entrap people who paid him money. Monson let people who borrowed money to use these cars to earn their trust. However, the officials suspect that some of these are fake luxury cars. Details of many of these vehicles are not in government records.
