Kochi: A total of 24 migrant workers are booked in two separate cases in connection with the assault on police at Kizhakkambalam here on Saturday evening. SP Karthik stated that efforts were being made to identify those involved in the incident and more arrests will be recorded soon. Over 100 people are currently in police custody.

Two cases have been registered against migrant workers of Kitex Group in connection with the violence. They have been charged for attempt to murder and destruction of public property in connection with an incident that left five policemen injured and a police van vandalised and burnt.

It is learned that 18 people have been booked for attempt to murder and six for setting police vehicles on fire. The clashes in the camp where the workers were staying at around 12 at night had spread outside. Workers set fire to a police jeep and attacked several officers. Police later arrested more than 100 workers and evacuated them.

The incident took place at a workers' camp of Kitex in Kizhakkambalam. Clashes broke out between workers during Christmas celebration. According to information received at the police control room, the workers also unleashed attack on the police officers who came to probe the incident.
