Thiruvananthapuram: Transport Minister Antony Raju on Tuesday said that the plans to increase bus fare for the night services are under consideration. The statement came after the minister met with Justice A Ramachandran, who headed a committee appointed to study the possibility of increasing bus fare in the state.

“Currently, night and day rates are the same. The bus owners have raised complaints about losing money due to the fewer number of passengers during night hours. These matters will be discussed with the Chief Minister and a decision will be taken soon,” he said.

“A criteria for providing concession to the students will also be looked into. During discussions with the commission, it has been suggested that free passes should be limited to the financially backward students. There is an opinion that different rates should be charged depending on the financial condition of the students. The matter will be discussed with bus owners and student organizations,” the minister said.

The minister also asked the committee to submit a report immediately regarding unification of ambulance rates.
