Thiruvananthapuram: In a major relief to consumers, Electricity Minister K Krishnankutty on Thursday stated that no decision has been taken to increase the power tariff in the state. The minister said that despite a proposal to increase the charge during peak hours, no decision has been taken but there are plans under consideration to increase electricity charges during peak hours from 6 pm to 10 pm. The minister assured that this plan is only under consideration.

Referring to the earlier report on the Kerala State Regulatory Commission planning to revise tariff policy on electricity rates, the minister said that no decision has been taken to increase power tariff by 10 per cent.

With the advent of smart meters, people will be able to control themselves, he added.
