Antony Perumbavoor stays adamant as theatre release of Marakkar stuck in limbo

Kochi: Producer Antony Perumbavoor on Friday demanded that the theatre owners should pay an equal amount offered by the OTT platform for the release of Mohanlal-starrer ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ (Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea) in the theatres.

It is reported that Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) president Vijayakumar has refused to accept the demand. A meeting of the organization is ongoing in Kochi when this news report is being published. The theatre owners have offered to compromise for the theatre release of the movie. However, more information on this matter is yet to be revealed.

There are also reports that Antony has offered to resign from the organization if they fail to find a middle ground on the matter. Antony has been FEUOK’s Vice President since the organization was formed in 2017.

A few days back, Antony had said that the ‘Marakkar’ has to be released through an OTT platform since there is a delay in the opening of theatres in the state. It irked the theatre owners.

The theatres were finally allowed to reopen Wednesday. However, the poor turnover continues to hurt theatre owners. This reaction from the public has prompted filmmakers in releasing their movies through OTT platforms. Theatre owners hope that the audience will flock back to the theatres with the release of the movies like Marakkar.
