Thiruvananthapuram: Minister of Water Resources Roshy Augustine on Thursday stated that the Idukki dam will be opened again if needed. The statement was made in the wake of shutters of Mullaperiyar dam, scheduled to be raised on Friday.
Meanwhile, precautionary measures were taken and 1079 families were relocated to safe areas ahead of the opening of Mullaperiyar dam. Further, 19 families have also been shifted to two camps.
Roshy Augustine added that the water level in Periyar is below the warning level and the concerned authorities are well prepared to manage the situation.
Mullaperiyar dam will be opened on Friday at 7 am, and the water will be discharged through the spillway until the water level reaches 138 feet.
