Thiruvananthapuram: If caste is denoted in the SSLC Certificate/ Education Certificate, then it can be used as an official document in place of Caste certificate issued by Village Officer/ Thahasildar. If parents are from different caste, then the caste indicated in the education certificate of either one of them can be used to certify caste of the child.

If the caste is duly recorded in the certificate/education record and there is a marriage certificate of wife/husband issued by the Sub-Registrar or the local body, then it will be accepted as a substitute for the inter-caste marriage certificate. However, it is important that they should submit an affidavit along with it. By this change, the need for a certificate issued by the Village Officer can be avoided.

Meanwhile, job seekers looking to go abroad will be given the facility to upload the certificates online for the certification of the Home Department. For this, a login facility will be provided to the universities, examination hall, higher secondary section and local government department. Those concerned officers can check the authenticity of the certificates online.
