Man who died in Pune after being infected with Omicron hails from Palakkad

Pune: The first man, who died of heart attack in Pune after being infected with Omicron, hails from Kongad of Palakkad. A 52-year-old man who arrived from Nigeria on December 12 died at Pimpri Yashwantrao Chavan Hospital on December 28.

He had not tested positive for Covid-19 during the tests conducted at the time of his return from Nigeria. He then stayed with his family in Chinchwad. On December 17, he was admitted to Pimpri Yashwantrao Chavan Hospital due to chest pain.

A subsequent examination revealed that he was Covid positive, said Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Assistant Medical Officer Dr Laxman Gofhan. He had been suffering from diabetes for the past 13 years and had been suffering from heart disease, health officials added.

The man's body was cremated at Pimpri Bhat Nagar Cemetery on the same day as per the instructions of the authorities. The test results of his sample, which were sent to the National Institute of Virology, confirmed that he was infected with the Omicron variant.
