Child suffers injury as 'ice cream bomb' explodes in Kannur

Kannur: A child was injured after an ice cream ball-shaped bomb exploded in Kannur here on Monday. Srivardhan, a native of Narivayal, was admitted to Thalassery Co-operative Hospital after accidentally coming in contact with the bomb. However, it is learnt that the injuries are not serious.

The incident took place when Srivardhan was playing cricket with other kids in the neighbourhood. The child picked up the bomb while looking for the cricket ball in a field near their playground. It is believed that the bomb exploded after the child tried to discard it. Police have reached the spot and started an investigation.

The bomb was a ball-shaped ice cream cup filled with explosives. Similar incidents were earlier reported from Kannur in the past.
