Kozhikode: BJP state president K Surendran on Saturday has criticised finance minister KN Balagopal for allegedly making false statement on state government's effort to slash fuel price in Kerala. He said that even CPM members will not believe KN Balagopal's foolish statement that the state government also reduced taxes on fuel price similar to the way centre reduced the excise duty.

“The state government should take relief measures for the poor without trying to take credit of the central government in reducing the tax on fuel price. Like his predecessor Thomas Isaac, incumbent finance minister is only trying to mislead the people by pronouncing false claims,” he said.

“The state imposed a hefty tax of 30.08 per cent on petrol and 22.76 per cent on diesel. The Pinarayi government needs to find some other source of income other than this. But, the Left government is taking money out of the pockets of the poor without collecting the taxes of the big capitalists. The finance minister should try to find other sources of income other than lottery and alcohol by reducing the expenditure,” Surendran added.
