Kochi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has approached Kerala police seeking information on the alleged political murders in Alappuzha. Earlier, the BJP leadership had demanded NIA inquiry into the political murders in Palakkad and Alappuzha. Following this, the central agency sought more information on the case.
However, NIA could only initiate an investigation unless the police charge offence under the ‘Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act’ (UAPA) against those arrested in the case. As of now, the police have only arrested around 50 people in the case. As per reports, no further action has been taken over the double murder.
Meanwhile, BJP chief K Surendran had demanded that NIA should take over the probe into the murder of Renjith Sreenivasan in Alappuzha and the murder of BJP leader Sanjith in Palakkad. The BJP had also raised the demand with the Kerala governor and the central government.
