Thiruvananthapuram: Union Minister V Muraleedharan on Friday asked the state government to clarify whether Kerala University has decided not to award D.Litt to the President. He pointed out that the state government has no right to interfere in the university’s decision to award D.Litt.

“The State Government and the Education Minister should clarify whether the University of Kerala has taken the decision not to give D.Litt to the President. Giving D.Litt is the decision of the university. The government has no authority to interfere in the decision of the university. If the state has interfered on the matter, then it can be termed as abuse of power,” Muraleedharan said.

Earlier, Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala had raised six questions concerning the ongoing feud between Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and the state government. Ramesh Chennithala questioned whether the state had intervened to stop the university from awarding D.Litt to the president.
