Thiruvananthapuram: The KSEB is considering a proposal to link electricity connections with Aadhaar cards of the consumers to make the process hassle-free. The KSEB has sought the approval of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) for this purpose.
Currently, an electrical connection can be availed with just two identification documents. However, many companies shut down without paying the bills after getting a connection. Due to the lack of proof of identity, KSEB often struggles to track down these customers. The Aadhaar number is tipped to avoid this.
However, an Aadhar card cannot be made mandatory for acquiring a KSEB connection. In the first phase, only those who are interested will be asked to submit their Aadhaar number.
The board has also decided to revise the online payment system to curb cyber fraud in the name of electricity bills. With the new changes, the users could get details of the electricity bill by visiting the KSEB website and entering their consumer number.
The information can also be obtained by entering only the mobile number in the QuickPay system for payment. However, it is suspected whether fraudsters are gathering information from these platforms. Therefore, an OTP sent to the registered phone number can be used to view the electricity bill.
