Kerala vaccinates 89 per cent of adult population with first dose
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has vaccinated 89 per cent of the adult population with the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine, informs the COVID-19 review report of the state government. As per the report, 2,37,96,983 individuals have been inoculated with the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Meanwhile, 98,27,104 individuals (36.7 per cent) have received both doses. The report states that 96 per cent of individuals above 45 years have received the first dose and 55 per cent of the age group have been fully inoculated.
Kerala Covid-19 situation review report has come up with many optimistic statistics.
A total of 1,96,657 cases were reported during the period between September 12 and September 18. Among those cases, only 2 per cent needed oxygen beds and only one per cent needed ICU facilities.
When compared to the previous week, the number of cases reported show a difference of 40,432 cases. Similarly, the growth of increase in Covid-19 cases has dropped by 23 per cent. The percentage of individuals needing hospitalization, ICU and oxygen beds dropped by 8 per cent, 6 per cent, 4 per cent and 7 per cent respectively. The report points out that hospitalization cases and severe cases show a declining trend.
However, the statistics alert us that we cannot let our guard down. Among those infected in June, July and August, six per cent were already administered with the first dose while 3.6 per cent were fully vaccinated. This suggests that though vaccines are effective in boosting immunity, still there is a chance of getting infected. So precautions to avoid infection should be taken, and specifically, individuals with comorbidities should be more vigilant, states the report.
