New Delhi: The Supreme Court has refused to vacate the stay of Kerala High Court division bench of its single bench order in forming a search committee to select the vice-chancellor of Kerala University.

HC single bench of Justice Devan Ramachandran had earlier ordered the Kerala University Senate to choose its nominee to the search committee established by the chancellor Arif Mohammed Khan, within a month. The plea was filed by senate member S Jayaraman, who sought an intervention to end the stalemate in forming the committee due to the ongoing dispute between the chancellor and university senate.

In the appeal, HC division bench headed by Chief Justice S Manikumar stayed the order. Jayakumar appealed before SC, but the bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud refused to intervene since the HC division bench is considering the case again on January 23. The petitioner was allowed to approach again if the division bench order is delayed indefinitely.
