Thiruvananthapuram: The Union Home Ministry has directed the Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Bureau to conduct a detailed investigation into the alleged leak of a state intelligence report concerning the security arrangements for the prime minister on his Kerala visit on April 24 and 25.
Based on the preliminary IB report, the state police and state intelligence submitted their reports to the union government. However, no response has been received yet.
The IB has to report only after the PM's visit to Kerala. The state police chief has also instructed the ADGP of intelligence to provide details on the leaked report within a week.
The leaked report contained information about the Prime Minister's security officers. This led to a drastic change in the current security plan as instructed by the SPG. The state police plan for the Prime Minister's security was jointly prepared by the Central IB and the SPG.
The police claim that no top secret reports were leaked. The "intelligence note" that surfaced was distributed even among lower-ranking officers, indicating there was nothing confidential in it.
Meanwhile, an investigation is underway by the Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner to identify the source of the leak, which is suspected to have come from a DySP based in the capital city. Deputy Commissioner V Ajith is in charge of the probe.
There are growing suspicions that the leak was the result of a power struggle among top police officials. Allegations are that the vacant DGP position is at the root of the issue.
