Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader VD Satheesan slammed the Kerala government for the recurring number of food poisoning incidents and subsequent deaths in the state. He opined that the state government have failed in ensuring food safety.

"Kerala had topped the FSSAI’s 'Food Safety Index' during the tenure of the UDF government. However, Kerala dropped to sixth position in 2022," Satheesan said.

Satheesan also lashed out at the state health and food safety departments by claiming that officials are conducting inspections only when cases of food poisoning crop up, he said. With government support, the lobby of officials toppled the functioning and inspections of the inter-district squads and Rapid Action Force, alleged Satheesan.

“What else do we expect from the food safety officials who mock the people calling toll-free numbers?”, quizzes Satheesan.

Satheesan urged the state government to boost the operations of the food safety department in a practical and scientific manner.
