Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rains are likely to lash Kerala within 24 hours. The India Meteorological Department here on Friday sounded an orange alert in Pathanamthitta district.
As per the alert, an orange alert is sounded when 204.4 mm rainfall is expected within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, IMD sounded a yellow alert in 8 districts including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode on Friday. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts are placed under yellow alert on Saturday.
A yellow alert is sounded when heavy rainfall of 115.5 mm t0 204.4 mm is expected within 24 hours.
In view of the adverse weather conditions, fishermen are advised not to venture into the Kerala coast on Friday.
“ Strong winds 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph very likely along and off Kerala coast,” reads the IMD alert.
The IMD informed that there are no restrictions on venturing into the sea on Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts.
